International confernce on Bandish and its facets: An Introduction
Punyaswar 2011 is a publication of the Centre for performing Arts, Lalit Kala Kendra (Gurukul), University of Pune edited by Ranjani Ramachandran, Chaitanya Kunte and Dr Shubhangi Bahulikar. The Performing Arts Department organized an International Conference on Music focusing on Bandish and its facets in February 2010.This publication is a compilation of the conference papers presented by the eminent speakers during the conference, which included renowned musicians and musicologists from India and abroad. The two day conference was divided into five sessions, each session focusing on understanding the concept of Bandish in Vocal music, Instrumental Music, Dance, Percussion Instruments and Rasa Bhav in Bandish respectively.

Dr. Jayashree Rajgopalan - Rasa- Theory with reference to Bharat’s Natyashastra
Pt. Satyasheel Deshpande - Rasa-Bhav in Different Gharanas
Dr. Vikas Kashalkar - Rasa-Bhav in Indian Classical Music
The conference also included lecture demonstrations by Pt. Vijay Koparkar on Portrayal of different facets of a Raga through Bandishes in different genres; Smt. Vidya Dengle on Gatakari and Gayaki in Violin; Ms. Yogini Gandhi speaking on Creative expression of Bandish through Abhinaya; Pt. Yogesh Samsi giving a Detailed explanation of Non - expandable ‘Bandishes’ in Tabla and Pt. Suresh Talwalkar speaking and demonstrating the Nuances of Tabla accompaniment in Hindustani Vocal Music, Instrumental Music and Kathak.
