Janmashtami, Bharatnatyam dance ballet by Smt Vrinda Mehta
The worship of Krishna has been romanticised over the years and each devotee’s perspective of Krishna brings new meaning and greater glory to Him - Krishna the son, the friend, the lover, idol, the King
Ashtayaam are the 8 periods of worship of Krishna during the day, as practiced in our temples, from the time the child Krishna wakes in the morning, his routine through the day, the teenage Krishna’s friendship with the cowherd friends, his romance with Radha in his youth and his position as the leader of his pack. These create different senses and moods throughout the day. This depiction through dance and arts promises to be a unique event.
Smt. Vrunda Mehta, born in London and trained under Smt Rukmini Devi Arundale at Kalakshetra, brings sensitive abhinaya and exquisite Bharatnatyam style to this dance ballet. Her deep understanding of art, dance, Krishna and the Pushti Marg has made her a renowned artist and winner of many awards.
Inner Courtyard, in association with Y. B. Chavan Pratishthan endeavors to present uniquely conceived programs to make the Indian arts more accessible and enjoyable to a contemporary audience. This, we believe will help preserve and nurture our great tradition of culture, music and literature.
